Stage two completion…

With the cap and crown resurfacing completed, all that was left was to re-point the remaining portion of the chimney below the roofline.

These sections of the chimney received the same method of grinding in a dovetail shape and chipping away the old mortar before filling with new structural mortar and finishing the joints.

Once the chimney re-pointing was completed, it was time for a muriatic acid wash of the entire chimney to remove the light haze of mortar from the stones. This allowed for the sharp contrast between the stones and mortar joints. Caulking was also applied to the flashing for some additional protection against water intrusion and esthetic reasons.
